The Level 2 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety (RQF) is aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety, fire marshalling/wardening or those who are based in any area where there is a potential risk of fire

All workplaces have a legal obligation to ensure their environment is safe when it comes to fire risks. Ultimately that comes down to ensuring your team have the required knowledge and understanding around fire safety.

Learners gaining this qualification will understand that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone, and will recognise the causes of fire, common hazards and fire risk assessments. It can support those already in a workplace role or learners preparing for employment.

This qualification can be assessed either in a classroom setting or remotely online (subject to strict examination conditions).

This Course is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED in order to become listed as a nominated Fire Marshall or Fire Warden in the workplace.

DURATION

The course is run "blended", with a total of 6 Guided Learning Hours of E-Learning (Home Self-Study) and an assessment by a Multiple Choice Questionnaire. 

MODULES

Unit 1: Principles of Fire Safety

  • Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace
  • Identify the common causes of fires in the workplace
  • Describe how the components of the fire triangle affect a fire
  • Identify hazards during or after a fire, including the products of combustion
  • Describe how fire can spread
  • Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace
  • Outline the steps within a fire risk assessment
  • Describe ways to reduce the likelihood of a fire and improve safety within the workplace
  • Identify the elements of a means of escape
  • Identify methods of detection and raising the alarm
  • Identify types and uses of fire-fighting equipment
  • Outline the duties of employers and employees in fire safety in the workplace
  • Identify the role of fire wardens in their workplace on a day-to-day basis, during an emergency and If they are away from their designated area of responsibility when the alarm is raised
